Nestled on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, Poneloya is a quaint village located in the Department of León, Nicaragua. With its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning natural beauty, Poneloya is a destination that offers something for every traveler.

The village boasts affordable restaurants and hotels, making it an accessible destination for visitors. The peak tourist season is around Easter, the transition week between March and April, and Christmas. Poneloya offers excellent surfing conditions and tours to the nearby “Los Brasiles” island, a unique ecosystem teeming with diverse birdlife.

Economic Development:

Poneloya is characterized by stark contrasts, with luxurious villas standing next to simple corrugated iron huts. The majority of the residents work as fishers or caretakers of the weekend homes. Others run small businesses, kiosks, or work in nearby fish farms. The village is equipped with essential facilities, including pharmacies, a police station, a school, a health center, and churches.

Climate and Wildlife:

Situated in the subtropics, Poneloya experiences a dry season and a rainy season. The temperatures remain relatively constant throughout the year, ranging from 32°C to 40°C (90°F to 104°F) during the day and 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F) at night. The coastal area is home to mangrove swamps, while the inland areas feature tropical dry forests and savannas, providing a habitat for a diverse range of wildlife.
